Palm is now GRAM a new brand and company with HP webOS, Enyo and Cloud strengths.

Palm is now transforming in a new brand and company GRAM with the core strengths of webOS, Enyo and Cloud offerings.

"GRAM is a new company. We are in stealth mode on our product offering."

We are no longer a consumer hardware brand, we are a different company with focus on software, User Experience, Cloud, engineering and partnering. This change in identity will take some getting used to and that's normal, says  HP's webOS Global Business Unit  Chief of Staff Martin Risau.

This news come ahead of the launch of HP webOS as an OpenSource OS next month. The sad  side , no more webOS hardware, maybe.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all of your enthusiasm at yesterday's new brand announcement: GRAM.  We hope you will fall in love with the brand just as lots of us have already.
Please note that our Mission, Values and Plan of Action are the same. We are continuing to march forward on our timelines as usual—nothing new there.
We have much work to do, and, again, I solicit your help.
Yes, this is a new brand—it is just the beginning, and there is so much more to do. And yet unveiling the new brand is also a Call to Action:
Try it on. We don't expect you to love it overnight. We are no longer a consumer hardware brand, we are a different company with focus on software, User Experience, Cloud, engineering and partnering. This change in identity will take some getting used to and that's normal.
Stealth mode. We are an incubation company, and we are trusting you to keep this company name and product under the radar to give it time to take root and grow. You can wear the logo, help build the momentum of the new identity, talk to your families and friends about it. If someone from the outside asks, you can say, "GRAM is a new company. We are in stealth mode on our product offering."
Tap your network. Help us hire the best and the brightest, refer your friends and help us in our shared purpose as we continue our rise to the top. You can use the name to help us to recruit.
Be the culture. Spread our Values:  People Matter. Integrity and Trust. Deliberate Innovation. Act small, deliver big.
For those of you who could not attend yesterday's unveiling – we really missed you.  Please be on the lookout for the gift bags with our new cool branded items, which we be mailing out to you this and next week.  All of you should get one, if not – let me know.
Best
Martin

Leaked Photo of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 surfaces.

The Samsung N7100 Galaxy Note II will have a Galaxy S III inspired design, at least the front panel.

Some of the latest rumored specifications: 1280 x 800 pixel Super AMOLED screen will measure 5.5" and will utilize a regular RGB matrix,Exynos 4 Quad, with quad-core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz. while the camera will use the same 8MP sensor as the Galaxy S III.

The Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Note II is still being developed, so it's likely that the hybrid droid will launch with Android 4.0 ICS. There is an outside chance that Jelly Bean will be ready in time for the announcement, but it's more likely to come out later on.
We will see if the leaked photo is an official one at the upcoming Samsung event in August 29.

Q2 2012: LCD Flat Panel TV worldwide market share.

Q2 2012: LCD Flat Panel TV worldwide market share.

Global Flat-Panel TV Shipments Return to Growth in Q2; Samsung Stays on Top of LCD Market
Following a sharp 30 percent drop during the first three months of 2012, worldwide shipments of flat-panel televisions returned to growth in the second quarter, according to a preliminary estimate from the new Worldwide Monthly TV Tracker issued by Displaybank which was recently acquired by IHS.

Worldwide shipments of flat-panel televisions, a category consisting of liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma sets, rose to 48.9 million units in the second quarter, up 3.6 percent from 47.2 million from the first quarter. The figure below presents the preliminary IHS estimate of quarterly flat-panel television shipments, based on data from the Worldwide Monthly TV Tracker. Final second-quarter results will be issued later this month.

"After an unusually weak start to 2012, global television shipments showed some signs of life in the second quarter," said Tom Morrod, senior analyst and head of TV technology at IHS. "While television shipments typically decline in the first quarter following the peak Christmas selling season, the drop this year was unusually sharp because of tentative consumer spending. The return to growth in the second quarter follows normal seasonal patterns for television shipment growth, and likely signals further growth ahead in the third quarter."

The second quarter started off on a strong note, with shipments in April rising by 4 percent from March to reach the highest levels of the year up to that point, according to data from the Displaybank Worldwide Monthly TV Tracker. While shipments declined slightly in May and June, the increase in April was sufficient to drive growth for the entire second quarter.

Worldwide LCD TV shipments increased 3.4 percent in the second quarter, following a 29.3 percent drop in the first quarter. While worldwide plasma shipments are generally declining, they enjoyed a 6.6 percent bump in the second quarter, compared to a 39.5 percent plunge in the first quarter.

Samsung Remains on Top in LCD TVs; TCL Posts Strongest Growth Among Top 5
In the LCD segment, which accounts for the overwhelming majority of flat-panel display shipments, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. remained the leading brand in the second quarter, according to the preliminary estimate. Samsung was responsible for 19.2 percent of unit shipments, down just slightly from 19.3 percent in the first quarter. LG Electronics held its second-place ranking with a 13.2 percent share of shipments, unchanged from the first quarter.

The table below presents a preliminary ranking of the world's Top 5 LCD-TV brands based on data from the Worldwide Monthly TV Tracker. IHS will issue a final market-share ranking in full detail later this month.

Note: Correction: the last column is Q2 Market Share not Q1 Market Share

"Samsung continues to be dominant because of its shrewd marketing, global distribution and efficient production," Morrod observed. "Both Samsung and fellow South Korean brand LG are able to undercut their Japanese rivals on pricing, allowing them to retain their leadership. And with the Japanese market contracting dramatically, the companies based in the country have struggled to find new volume sales opportunities elsewhere."

The strongest performance among the Top 5 was posted by No. 4-ranked TCL Corp. of China, which increased its share of shipments to 6.5 percent, up from 5.9 percent in the first quarter.

"TCL is prospering both because of overseas sales—which were up by about 150,000 units in the second quarter—and due to domestic Chinese sales," Morrod said. "The company is taking advantage of capitalizing on rising sales in China in addition to upping its stature abroad."

Scientists warn of possible solar storm in 2014.

Scientists warn of possible solar storm in 2014.

An expert panel found that this phenomenon, more and more common, occur within the next two years and may affect global electrical systems and satellites in orbit.

Usually we are used to understand the concept of "natural disaster" in phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanoes, tidal waves and tsunamis. However, a group of NASA scientists warned of an event that is still contingency plans in the world, solar storms.

Solar storms are phenomena which have been heard enough in recent times but could increase with the years.

The panel found that by 2014 the world will face a wave could affect solar electricity systems, communications and satellites around the world.

This could be the biggest event in a cycle of 10 years in the activity of the star and, if filed, would be the first in more than 100 years.

Among the possible consequences that could cause the magnetically charged plasma on earth, is the melting of the electrical transformers in the world, damage satellites and communication systems.

The last solar storm of this magnitude occurred in 1859. At the time, the British astronomer Richard Carrington observed the large solar flare and timed the arrival of geomagnetic storms caused by the phenomenon to Earth with a delay of about 17 hours.

According to reports at the time, the solar storm was so massive that formed northern lights that could be seen much further south than where they usually are.

The question that remains for NASA experts is what the actual impact of a storm of this nature, taking into account the number of satellites in orbit and the effects of their damage globally.
