Samsung, Dell, Lenovo and Toshiba working on Windows RT devices.

Samsung, Dell, Lenovo and Toshiba working on Windows RT  devices.

Qualcomm Inc is providing chips for new devices from Dell Incand Samsung Electronics Co. that run Microsoft Corp.'s Windows RT operating system, people familiar with the matter said.

The newest version of Windows, to be released in October, will be the first to work with chips based on the ARM Holdings PLC architecture, not just those from traditional partners Intel Corp.  and Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

Microsoft and system makers are turning to makers of ARM-based chips--used in most smartphones and tablets--to make inroads against Apple Inc.'s  iPad, which continues to dominate the market. Both Dell and Samsung are working on tablets that run on Qualcomm's application processors, people familiar with the matter said.

The Dell product is a notebook that converts to a tablet, one of the people said.

Other details weren't immediately known. Microsoft and its hardware partners have said products will be unveiled as the market approaches the Windows 8 and Windows RT launch.Qualcomm dominates the smartphone market, but it has had some setbacks with Windows RT.

PC giant Hewlett-Packard Co.  was working with Qualcomm on a Windows RT device, but it said in June that it had set aside immediate plans for the new technology. Instead, H-P said it would focus on Intel-powered tablets for business users. And Microsoft chose to use processors from Nvidia Corp.  when it created its self-branded tablet, dubbed Surface.

Some PC makers have privately complained about the lack of software and other aspects of adopting Windows RT, including the question of consumer demand for the product. Adding to the challenges for companies considering Windows RT is Microsoft's push to make its own hardware. The Surface announcement is believed to have surprised and angered computer makers, which now face the prospect of competing with their software partner.
Microsoft on Monday provided some new details about the development of devices that use Windows RT including discussing which PC makers are working on tablets. The company has limited the number of computer designers who could work with chip makers for an initial release of Windows RT tablets. Nvidia has been working with Asustek Computer Inc. and Lenovo Group Ltd. according to people familiar with the matter.
The final Windows RT chip supplier, Texas Instruments Inc. , has been working with Toshiba Corp. on Windows RT devices, with the two earlier this year demonstrating a tablet. Questions about the device emerged following Microsoft's blog post Monday that left Toshiba off the list of Windows RT tablet partners.

A Toshiba spokesman said the company plans to release a statement later Monday. TI, meanwhile, said its Windows RT development and collaboration with Microsoft are "still going strong."

Intel demonstrates its new wireless charging technology. The transmitter is in the Ultrabook, and the receiver is attached to the phone. After activating some software, the device detects when your cellphone is near, and begins to charge it automatically. The phone has roughly a 20mm area of activity where it can charge, and it is perfect for those times when in a meeting, you simply place the mobile directly next to your notebook and let it charge up.

2H 2013: Intel`s wireless charging technology from ultrabooks to smartphones in the Works. Video Demo.

Intel's wireless charging solution uses an ultrabook as the power source paired with related software and a transmitter to wirelessly charge a smartphone. According to Intel's data, the solution will feature lower power consumption and does not require the phone to be put in a very specific position.
Intel also provides design suggestions to integrate the transmitter and receiver together to lower production costs, and Intel has also designed software exclusively for power charging with functions such as power charging equipment examination, smartphone charging control, and equipment position tests all included.
This technology could come out in the 2H 2013.

Is Samsung Preparing a True iPad Killer?

Is Samsung Preparing a True iPad Killer?

According to Softpedia the obvious candidate for such a feat is Samsung with their rumored P10 WQXGA tablet, sporting a 2560 by 1600 pixel resolution with a display density of 256ppi.

This product might have it all. Softpedia reported here about the impressive performance of Samsung's next generation ARM Cortex A15 processor which is very likely to end up inside the P10.

Thus, Samsung's next tablet will have a bigger screen, a higher resolution, mainly the same pixel density, more computing power and a larger battery allowed by the increased size.

It seems like Apple is not quite ready with an alternative and the company doesn't want to let Samsung enjoy this possible win, says Softpedia.

Sure, the American tablet expert might come with something superior in the future, but that new generation iPad seems to be far enough so that Samsung might enjoy six or even twelve months of superiority and good sales.

This would not only allow Samsung to increase its market share, but it would also embed it as a true and superior alternative to Apple's products and that's something the Cupertino giant fears the most.

The Softpedia writer also says, there might be a simpler explanation on why Apple is so adamant on getting at least some small win in the courts against Samsung

That explanation may be the fact that any design-related legal precedent could allow Apple to further annoy Samsung in the event the Korean giant brings a superior product to the market.

EA in talks with Microsoft to bring mobile games to upcoming  WP8.

"We're working very closely with Microsoft to understand what their views on gaming navigation are," Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore said in a phone interview before the annual Gamescom conference kicks off this week in Cologne, Germany. "Anything that allows more platforms to be adopted quickly that have a gaming element is good for Electronic Arts."

"It is important to attract the gamers and due to Windows Phone 8's relation to the classical Windows PC programs, it is a good platform for game developers," said Robert Jakobsen, an analyst at Jyske Bank A/S (JYSK) in Silkeborg, Denmark. "This is clearly a step forward for Microsoft's mobile operation system."

Electronic Arts is counting on games on phones and tablet computers as well as Internet-based titles to reduce the Redwood City, California-based company's reliance on boxed retail products. With sales of the mobile version of Windows 8 slated for later this year, Microsoft needs developers to create products for its platform to take on Apple Inc. 's iPhone and devices powered by Google Inc.'s Android software.

Ecuador: Young student developes Vibrato app to help deaf people. Works on iPhones, iPad, and iTouchs

Ecuador: Young student developes Vibrato app to help deaf people. Works on iPhones, iPad, and iTouchs

Mobile application opens links with the hearing impaired.

The application called Vibrato was designed by  Ecuadorian Jean Carlos Morales. Used to write a few words or short phrases, have them filed and show them to people who do not know sign language.

Since she was six years, the world of Yolanda Garcia fell silent due to illness. Now, at 54, the only means of communication is sign language, unknown to most people.

Such a situation could be nearing completion thanks to a cell phone application called iPhone Vibrato, which breaks this barrier and allows the interplay of the deaf with other people.

The application was designed by Jean Carlos Morales young Ecuadorian.

The major obstacle for the vast majority of nearly 40,000 deaf people in the country is the high price of the iPhone, about $ 850 in Ecuador, which is why Morales is seeking government subsidies or private companies.

Vibrato is used to write a few words or short phrases, have them filed and show them to people who do not know sign language.

The audio messages are used, for example, overcome obstacles such as intercoms, as when a deaf person comes into a building and rings, if you respond, you may feel with the palm of your hand, can not tell you want or who are looking for. If you press the application, you get a message identifying the right words.

The vibration function is active and alert them, for example, the doorbell of his house, or the horn of a car across the street.

Garcia, who works as a seamstress in the small town of Tumbaco, 15 kilometers east of the capital Quito, told The Associated Press that when he used the mechanism found him as "a facility to communicate with others. Now we all understand."

He stressed that "it was very important that someone is concerned about the deaf. I was happy." He added that his deaf friends want to use the application, but can not for the economic limitation.

The dialogue took place with the help of Anne's sister, Yolanda, who acted as interpreter, since it has no money to buy the iPhone.

He added that "we are all happy with this possibility."

Applying Morales was born as a thesis for a degree in Multimedia Interactivity and the University of San Francisco (USFQ), whose leadership guided the students to find work with a social purpose university final.

The dean of the School of Contemporary Arts, the USFQ, Hugo Burgos, said "it is a pioneering work that is using the technology, is a fairly simple, yet powerful is to bridge between the world of sounds and the deaf community, so they can develop as individuals and to occupationally. "

In developing its proposal, the young designer took a year to follow and engage with deaf people in their daily activities and see for yourself their everyday problems, in addition to therapists, doctors and other specialists.

Morales, 21, told the AP that "I wanted to make a contribution to people with disabilities because I am a disabled person due to medical malpractice suffered paralysis from the waist since age 8. Even I have some difficulty walking. "

"Of all people with disabilities in the least is taken into account to work is to the deaf, due to the inability to communicate with them, so I wanted to help," he said.

To put vibrato on Apple Store, Morales called for the rights to his college.  Did not has incovenients. He is handling the registration of the patent in Ecuador and soon plans to travel to the USA to do the same.

For now, Vibrato can be downloaded from Apple Store for less than a dollar and so far recorded purchases from France, Australia, USA and obviously Ecuador.

"The next step is for the designer spend their application to other platforms and be more widespread  the benefit," said Burgos.

For the application to join Apple Store, Morales received the help of a friend who took care of the formalities and pay the required fees by the firm. Soon Morales wants to develop the same application for other phones.
