reNIX, New GTK3 Theme Inspired by Android

reNIX is a beautiful GTK3 theme inspired by Android. The theme is compatible with latest Unity and Gnome Shell and comes with a squared metacity theme.

To install, extract the archive to the themes directory i.e. "~/.themes/" or "/usr/share/themes/".

Use Gnome Tweak tool or Ubuntu Tweak to choose the themes.

You can also install a matching theme for Chrome/Chromium from here.

Popular XBox Game 'The Splatters' Coming to Linux

Physics-based puzzle game The Splatters is coming to Linux.

The game is available now on XBox Live Arcade Market but soon it will be launched on Windows, Mac and Linux as well.

In the game, You control The Splatters, a band of acrobatic, liquid filled creatures. Set in a world where altering physics, performing crazy stunts and setting off a series of bomb explosions, seems like the right thing to do.

Greybird, A Beautiful Light Theme for Unity, Gnome Shell and XFCE

Greybird, the default theme of Xubuntu has been completely revamped. The theme now fully supports Unity and Gnome Shell as well.

Greybird theme includes:
  • GTK2 theme
  • GTK3 theme
  • Xfwm4 themes (normal and compact)
  • xfce-notifyd theme
  • Emerald theme
  • Metacity theme
  • Mutter theme
  • Unity support
  • Granite widgets support (elementary OS)
To download Greybird in Ubuntu 12.04, run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shimmerproject/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install shimmer-themes-greybird

For other distros:

Download the theme from here.

Extract the zip file to the themes directory i.e. "~/.themes/" or "/usr/share/themes/".

Use Gnome Tweak tool or Ubuntu Tweak to choose the themes.

Nautilus File Manager Gets Improvements in Ubuntu 12.10

Nautilus file manager has got some new improvements in Ubuntu 12.10.

New features include:
  • Reorganized application and gear menu
  • Added a menu for view actions
  • Added a View options selector to the toolbar
  • Added cluebars for Templates and Scripts special directories
  • Added ability to reorder bookmarks
  • Improved strings in the Autorun prompt
  • Improved error message strings
  • Improved image Properties page
  • Improved Permissions page in the Properties window
  • Improved layout of the Bookmarks dialog
  • Use the dropped text paragraph as name when creating new files using DnD of text snippets
  • Use double quotes instead of ASCII quotes for filenames
  • Change default action for executable text files to Display
  • Change the view mode and zoom level to be per-window instead of per-folder
  • Remove support for Manual layout in icon views outside of Desktop
  • Remove the Octal permissions list view column
