LESBIAN SUES LIBERTY U OVER MISSING EX-PARTNER

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 08:00 PM PDT

A lesbian is suing the university and church founded by Jerry Falwell for allegedly helping a former partner who became a Christian and forsook homosexual behavior flee the U.S. with the convert's biological child.
The case brought in federal court in Vermont by Janet Jenkins seeks money for legal fees, emotional distress and other alleged injuries from Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va.
The action was brought just as a Mennonite pastor unrelated to the university or church was convicted of helping Lisa Miller flee. Miller, a former member of the Thomas Road Baptist Church, traveled with her daughter to Canada, then to Nicaragua, where she was last known to reside.

NYC CLERK BRUTALLY ATTACKED FOR REFUSING TO SELL BEER TO A FOOD STAMP CUSTOMER

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 07:30 PM PDT

An allegedly intoxicated man on Thursday attacked a store clerk in Brooklyn, N.Y., after he was told he couldn't buy a $1.25 bottle of beer with his food stamp card, the NY Daily News reports.
"Sell it to me," the food stamp customer yelled at the Yemeni husband and father, Mutahar Murshed Ali. "Don't get me mad."
Despite the threat, Ali, who believes his aggressor was buying for a minor, refused to sell the man the 22-ounce bottle of Colt 45. The allegedly drunk man yelled a racial slur, left for a minute, came back, and then attacked Ali's face with a knife, slashing him from his top lip to his left sideburn. Could Michael Phelps LOSE His Medals?

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 07:00 PM PDT

  • Rule 40 in the International Olympic Committee's guidebook states that no athlete is able to participate in non-Olympic marketing during the Games and a specified period afterwards
  • The Louis Vuitton ads surfaced on Twitter and various websites on August 13, which fell within the banned time frame

As the most decorated Olympian of all time, it was only a matter of time before Michael Phelps landed a major fashion endorsement.
But in posing for the Louis Vuitton campaign images that surfaced on Twitter on August 13, 2012, the U.S. Olympic swimmer may be stripped of his medals, four gold and two silver, from the London 2012 Games.

ALABAMA WOMAN SHOOTS HOME INTRUDER TO PROTECT HERSELF AND HER AX- AND KNIFE-WIELDING DAUGHTERS

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 06:30 PM PDT

An Alabama woman said she was forced to shoot an intruder that broke into her home this week in order to protect herself and her daughters.
Martha Lewis of Dora, Ala. told WVTM-TV it was about 3 a.m. Tuesday morning when she heard a loud noise, which turned out to be someone kicking in her door. Lewis said she called the police and grabbed her gun, then went to her daughters' room and told them each to get something to defend themselves with. She said one grabbed an ax and one got a butcher knife.

CONTROVERSIAL ‘JIHAD ADS’ APPEARING ON SAN FRANCISCO BUSES — AND THEY AREN’T COMING DOWN

"In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad," reads a controversial ad displayed in San Francisco's Municipal Railway buses.
And as of now, despite the outcry, it's not coming down.
"Muni officials spoke on Wednesday, addressing the ads purchased by the American Freedom Defense Initiative [which, of course, has been labelled a "hate group"] that contains a message that has been called 'anti-Islam' by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)," CBS San Francisco reports.

California Parks Aides Used 'Katrina Codes' To Pay Managers Overtime

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 05:30 PM PDT

California parks officials apparently used obscure payroll codes intended for wildfires and disasters such as Hurricane Katrina to turn vacation time into overtime pay for managers, the state controller's office testified Wednesday.

The state payroll system generally blocks managers from receiving overtime, said John Hiber, the state controller's chief operating officer, at a Senate oversight hearing. But override codes exist for rare cases such as Department of Forestry and Fire Protection employees fighting wildfires or emergency workers providing disaster relief.

Brewing Up Love: Weddings Tap Craft Beer Craze

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 05:00 PM PDT

You may now chug with the bride.

Toasting the bride and groom with Champagne is de rigueur. But recently, couples hip (or is that hops?) to craft beers are shaking up the wedding reception scene by insisting on serving the brews they love on their big day, everything from local ales to home brews concocted by the bride and groom.

It's not unusual for stouts and pilsners to flow at receptions or for rehearsal dinners to feature "beer flight" tastings of different craft brews. The high-end Baltimore caterer Chef's Expressions offers hors d'oeuvres consisting of a shot glass of beer and a burger slider.

NEVADA MEDIA CALLS BERKLEY ATTACK AD 'LAUGHABLE'

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 04:30 PM PDT

Democratic Congressman Shelley Berkley's Campaign for Senate released a television ad that claimed her opponent, incumbent Republican Senator Dean Heller, was implicated in a $64 million diamond scam. By Monday, every major media outlet in Nevada declared the ad was false.

John L. Smith at the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported:
The television commercial accuses former Nevada Secretary of State Heller of failing to interrupt the $64 million fraud perpetrated at Urban Casavant's CMKM Diamonds Inc. while it was printing and selling, authorities alleged, 800 billion shares of worthless stock to 40,000 starry-eyed investors.

Conservative Steps In To Pay Hospital Bill For Obama's Sick Brother...

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 03:30 PM PDT

A few days ago I received a call from a man I recently met named George.  He was a bit flustered, and soon informed me that his young son was sick with a chest condition.  He pleaded with me to send him $1,000 to cover the medical bills.  Since George was at the hospital I asked him to let me speak to a nurse, and she confirmed that George's son was indeed ill.  So I agreed to send George the money through Western Union.  He was profusely grateful.  But before I hung up I asked George, "Why are you coming to me?"  He said, "I have no one else to ask."  Then he said something that astounded me, "Dinesh, you are like a brother to me."
Actually, George has a real life brother who just happens to be the president of the United States.  (George Obama is the youngest of eight children sired by Barack Obama Sr.)  George's brother is a multimillionaire and the most powerful man in the world.  Moreover, George's brother has framed his re-election campaign around the "fair share" theme that we owe obligations to those who are less fortunate.
One of Obama's favorite phrases comes right out of the Bible: "We are our brother's keeper."  Yet he has not contributed a penny to help his own brother. And evidently George does not believe, even in times of emergency, that he can turn to his brother in the White House for help.

OBAMA SUED OVER LATEST ATTACK ON CONSTITUTION

Judicial Watch, the Washington-based organization that monitors government misbehavior and challenges it in court when needed, has filed a lawsuit demanding from the Obama administration the details of the new amnesty program that was installed by executive order.
Congress several times has rejected amnesty for illegal aliens, but Obama's plan allows immigrants who can prove they arrived in the U.S. before they reached 16, and now are 30 or younger, to obtain special permission to work in the U.S.

Unemployment rates rose in 44 U.S. states in July

Unemployment rates rose in 44 U.S. states in July, the most states to show a monthly increase in more than three years and a reflection of weak hiring nationwide.
The Labor Department said Friday that unemployment rates fell in only two states and were unchanged in four.
Unemployment rates rose in nine states that are considered battlegrounds in the presidential election. That trend, if it continued, could pose a threat to President Barack Obama's re-election bid in less than three months.

Why Liberals Behave the Way They Do

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 02:30 PM PDT

My smash best-seller "Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America" has just come out in paperback — and not a moment too soon! Democrats always become especially mob-like during presidential election campaigns.

The "root cause" of the Democrats' wild allegations against Republicans, their fear of change, their slogans and insane metaphors, are all explained by mass psychology, diagnosed more than a century ago by the French psychologist Gustave Le Bon, on whose work much of my own book is based.
Le Bon's 1896 book, "The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind," was carefully read by Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini in order to learn how to incite mobs. Our liberals could have been Le Bon's study subjects.

Is GM Really Going to Go Bankrupt Again?

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 02:00 PM PDT

Louis Woodhill at Forbes seems to think so:
President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors. That's good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again. The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.
He's right about the president being awfully proud of "rescuing" GM. Remember this from last week?

Words Don’t Pull Triggers

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 01:30 PM PDT

On Wednesday morning of this week, a malcontented volunteer from an LGBT community center in Washington, D.C., walked into the lobby of the socially conservative Family Research Council. Along with a handgun and a box of ammunition, he was carrying a backpack that contained 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches — an obvious if peculiar reference to last month's flap. Having cleared the doors, the Associated Press reported, the gunman shouted "I don't like your politics!" and then opened fire, hitting a security guard in the arm. Mercifully, before he could do any more damage, he was subdued. The same could be said of the media coverage.

When a lunatic goes on a shooting rampage, we are quick to blame everything and everyone except the shooter himself. Among myriad other things, we blame the law, access to guns, political rhetoric, Hollywood, spending cuts, and talk radio; all while the person who actually fired the gun and planned the crime is relegated to being a helpless agent of whichever external forces seem most to vex the author. So often, more column inches are spent fretting over those with a cameo role than over the star of the show. This is rather grotesque.

MSNBC CO-HOST TOURÉ: ROMNEY IS TAKING PART IN THE ‘NI**ERIZATION’ OF OBAMA

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 01:00 PM PDT

On Thursday, the panel of MSNBC's "The Cycle" dissected Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's claim that President Obama should "take [his] campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago." Though many would simply write this off as standard campaign rhetoric, co-host Touré argued that Romney was using "deep stereotypes" about black people, calling the comments the "ni**erization" of Obama.
"That really bothered me," he said. "You notice he said anger twice. He's really trying to use racial coding and access some really deep stereotypes about the angry black man. This is part of the playbook against Obama, the 'otherization,' he's not like us."

IF THE BUSH TAX CUTS EXPIRE, HOW MUCH MORE WOULD YOU HAVE TO PAY?

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 12:00 PM PDT

The discussion of the Bush-era tax cuts is one of the most reliable political footballs in recent memory. And with the December 31 deadline for the last two-year extension of the cuts looming, we can expect the debate to continue up to and through the election.

What does that mean to you and me? It all depends on where you live? CNBC's calculations show that Mississippi taxpayers will fare better than most people, but they still are looking at an increased tax liability of just over $1,300 (per household) for the year. Connecticut residents are on the other end of the scale and may be hit with a tax increase of almost $6,000 (per household) if the Bush tax cuts expire.

Omar said Afghan security forces were assisting Taliban fighters who infiltrate their ranks, kill foreign troops and then carry their government-issued weapons back to insurgent camps.

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau - $480k for language services for two entry level staffers

According to JW:

Activists To Take On Capitol Hill: Lay Off Our Milk, Lemonade

"This issue is not just about raw milk and it's not just about lemonade. It's about every individual's right to consume the food of their choice," said Robert Fernandes, founder of Lemonade Freedom Day.

New Federal Golf Rules

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 09:53 AM PDT

These new golf rules will be in effect beginning September of 2012. Please share with fellow golfers.

President BHO has recently appointed a Golf Czar and major rule changes in the game of golf will become effective September 1, 2012. This is only a preview as the complete rule book (expect 2000 pages) is being rewritten as we speak.

Here are a few of the changes .

Golfers with handicaps:
- below 10 will have their green fees increased by 35%.
- between 11 and 18 will see no increase in green fees.
- above 18 will get a $20 check each time they play.

The term "gimmie" will be changed to "entitlement" and will be used as follows:
- handicaps below 10, no entitlements .
- handicaps from 11 to 17, entitlements for putter length putts.
- handicaps above 18, if your ball is on green, no need to putt, just pick it up.

These entitlements are intended to bring about fairness and, most importantly, equality in scoring. In addition, a Player will be limited to a maximum of one birdie or six pars in any given 18-hole round. Any excess must be given to those fellow players who have not yet scored a birdie or par. Only after all players have received a birdie or par from the player actually making the birdie or par, can that player begin to count his pars and birdies again. The current USGA handicap system will be used for the above purposes, but the term "net score" will be available only for scoring those players with handicaps of 18 and above .

This is intended to "re-distribute" the success of winning by making sure that in every competition, the above 18 handicap players will post only "net score" against every other player's "gross score". These new Rules are intended to CHANGE the game of golf.

Golf must be about Fairness. It should have nothing to do with ability, hard work, practice, and responsibility. This is the "Right thing to do."

Congress Has Its Lowest Approval Rating Ever Recorded

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 09:45 AM PDT

How low can you go, Congress? According to a new Gallup poll released Tuesday, Congress now has an approval rating of just 10% - the lowest ever recorded. And that abysmal rating holds steady across the ideological spectrum – with Republican voters giving Congress a 10% approval rating, Democratic voters a 9% rating, and Independents – 11%. Before 20-07, Congress's approval rating only sank below 20% twice. Over the last year it's never been able to break 20% as deadlock, partisan bickering, and theatrics have dominated the 112th session of Congress. Curiously, this is the first Congress elected post-Citizens United – and nearly 300 million dollars in outside corporate and billionaire cash propelled these Members into office – the most ever recorded. In the last midterm election, in 20-06, there was fewer than $80 million in outside spending. In other words, we have the best Congress money can buy – and the people don't like it! To pay back the oil barons who funded their campaigns, Republicans in the House have held 191 votes against the environment – averaging one vote per day – blocking regulations to keep our air and water safe – and blocking action to address global climate change. To pay back the health insurers, Republicans in the House have tried to repeal Obamacare 33 times. And to pay back the banksters, Republicans in the House have been working around the clock to water-down, defund, or outright repeal new regulations on Wall Street to prevent another financial meltdown. In other words, this Congress – in particular, the House of Representatives, has been focused on helping only one class of Americans – the 1% - leaving the 99% behind. It's time to ask the five right-wing Justices on the Supreme Court if they still think money doesn't corrupt our government.

How Politicians And The Press Overstated Military Budget Cuts By $100 Billion

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 09:23 AM PDT

Anxiety is rising in Washington about the big cuts to military spending slated to go into effect in January unless Congress takes action.

Republicans, defense industry executives, and some Democrats are arguing hard against the automatic cuts, which were the result of last summer's deal [1] to raise the debt ceiling and would also cut nondefense spending equally. Multiple members of Congress have warned that slashing defense spending by $600 billion would devastate the military, with Sen. Lindsey Graham this month predicting the cuts [2] would deal "a death blow to our ability to defend ourselves."

There's just one problem: The number they cite is wrong.

The law triggering the cuts does not slash the military budget by $600 billion. That figure — which has also been widely cited in the media [3] — overstates the amount of military cuts by more than $100 billion.

Signed by President Obama last August after the debt ceiling drama, the law actually requires $492 billion in military budget cuts. (The cuts are slated to take place over nine years.)

The oft-repeated higher figure of $600 billion is actually the total in projected deficit reduction that the government would get by cutting $492 billion from the military. The extra $108 billion in projected savings would come via interest payments the government wouldn't have to make. Since the government would be spending less, it could borrow less and thus save on interest.

"It is downright misleading to say that sequestration will cut defense by $600 billion," said David Berteau [4], senior vice president at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a former Defense Department official. (Sequestration [5] is the term often used in Washington to refer to the cuts.)

"This entire exercise against sequestration is tainted by the intense desire of several parties — from the members of Congress who voted for the bill to the Pentagon that wants to avoid the cuts — to make sequestration seem untenable," Berteau added.

Maryland's Unemployment Rate Edges Up To 7%

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 08:53 AM PDT

Maryland's unemployment rate inched up to 7% today in the latest state employment picture released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. From June to July, the state netted a gain of 800 jobs, while June's numbers were revised sightly upwards. The June unemployment rate was 6.9%, while January was 6.5%.

"This is not nearly enough job growth to say we're competitive in the region," said Change Maryland Chairman Larry Hogan. "And a spike of half a point in the unemployment rate since the beginning of the year is a disturbing trend to say the least."

Virginia saw a gain of 21,300 new jobs, the third-highest in the country between June and July, and its unemployment rate is 5.9%.

"Maryland has a formidable competitor south of the Potomac and Virginia once again is showing the way forward in job growth," added Hogan.

What Happens If Obama Wins

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 08:45 AM PDT

On Tuesday evening Glenn Beck declared that if Barack Obama is reelected president, Americans will have only themselves to thank and will, essentially, reap what they deserve. He qualified that it pained him to admit such truths, but stressed that it is far better to deal with "harsh warnings" than the harsh consequences of a second Obama presidency. He ceded that during the 2008 election, Americans, being the consummate optimists, hoped to believe the best about Barack Obama when he emerged on the political scene. While the warning signs were there the public was "blinded" by the moment. "This time around there is no excuse, we will get exactly what we deserve," Beck said.

Beck posited that under another Obama presidency America could become vulnerable to additional terrorist attacks and that the threats to Israel would mount as anti-Semitism rises across the globe. Likewise, record deficits, spending, bailouts, rising unemployment and corruption along with unsustainable investments (like Solyndra) will all boil down to disaster. He added that the economy both here and abroad could likely collapse and that the Muslim Brotherhood will begin to see success as it morphs from Islamic militant group to the architects of a far-reaching, anti-Western caliphate.

The usual suspects

So what, exactly, would the country look like during and after a second Obama term?

Aside from the possible outcomes Beck outlined, are increases in defense cuts and "green energy" investments — sound or otherwise. In turn, should President Obama occupy the Oval Office for another four years, it is almost definite that the Affordable Care Act will not be reformed in any meaningful or significant way, even if Republicans keep the House and take the Senate.

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 08:30 AM PDT

Secret Service officers associated with Vice President Joe Biden bought a pile of cupcakes from the baker who refused to host Biden at his shop — and they did so out of gratitude.
It's a startling news nugget at the bottom of a local report. "[S]hortly after Crumb and Get It told Biden's advance people 'no' — the secret service walked in and told [owner] Chris McMurray "Thanks for standing up and saying 'no' — then they bought a whole bunch of cookies and cupcakes," according to the Valley Reporter (Va.).

"Narcissism is a failure not of conscience but of empathy, which is the capacity to perceive emotions in others and so react to them appropriately. The poor narcissist cannot see past his own nose, emotionally speaking, and as with the Pillsbury Doughboy, any input from the outside will spring back as if nothing had happened.

Unlike sociopaths, narcissists often are in psychological pain, and may sometimes seek psychotherapy. When a narcissist looks for help, one of the underlying issues is usually that, unbeknownst to him, he is alienating his relationships on account of his lack of empathy with others, and is feeling confused, abandoned, and lonely.

He misses the people he loves, and is ill-equipped to get them back. Sociopaths, in contrast, do not care about other people, and so do not miss them when they are alienated or gone, except as one might regret the absence of a useful appliance that one has somehow lost."

Martha Stout, The Sociopath Next Door

What can be done to stop the mass shootings in the USA?

The Wicomico Farm & Home Show

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 07:53 AM PDT

While this is truly one of the ONLY Family events Wicomico County holds all year, guess what, Wicomico County does NOT support this Show.

What used to be known as the Wicomico County Fair, Rick Pollitt refuses to participate in any way, shape or form with this event. Born and raised here on the Eastern Shore, County Executive Rick Pollitt has forgotten his roots. He may talk the talk but the man certainly does not walk the walk.

The fine people/farmers of Wicomico County actually RENT Winterplace Park from the County in order to hold their Show. They are forced to go into the buildings days in advance in order to clean up what's been left behind. Not that ANY of these people are complaining, they're grateful they have a place to host the Show each year. Nevertheless, I know what's going on and I'm not afraid to come out and say it.

I think it's shameful Wicomico County offers not even a penny to help these fine people out. I guess Rick Pollitt is like a lot of the senior educators out there who SAY they love kids and everything they do is for the kids but when you really look at it, they couldn't care less.

During the ribbon cutting, notice ALL of the elected officials in attendance. Mind you, the County representatives are at MACO this week in Ocean City. Who replaced Jim Fineran anyway?

I will be at the Show showing MY support today from 4 PM to 8 PM. See you there.

Which Blood Type Has The Lowest Risk Of Heart Disease?

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 07:45 AM PDT

Here's another reason to know your blood type — it might be a clue to your risk of heart disease.

People who have blood types A, B, or AB have a slightly higher risk of heart disease compared to those with type O, the most common kind, according to research released Tuesday.

Those who know they are at higher risk may be more motivated to make changes to lower their chances of heart disease, said Dr. Lu Qi, senior author of the study from Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.

"We cannot change blood type but we can change lifestyle," said Qi, who led a study released last year that showed blood type may affect stroke risk.

The new study involved about 90,000 men and women in two observational health studies that cover more than 20 years. Combined, 4,070 people developed heart disease. The researchers considered age and other factors like diet, drinking, family history of heart attacks that could contribute to heart disease.

The increased risk for type A was 8 percent; type B, 11 percent; and type AB, 20 percent.

Be Sure To Visit The Farm & Home Show This Weekend

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 08:06 AM PDT

Our booth is set up and a lot of tee shirts and bumper stickers were given out last night.

The crowd is expected to be much bigger tonight and Saturday and we've asked Mr. Robinson to keep the presses going to print off more tee shirts. So for those of you who were there tonight asking if we'll have more available today, we will. So I'm told anyway.

I expect to be at the Show today from 4 PM to 8 PM and Saturday all day. You people continue to humble me by coming out and asking some great questions. Seeing the smiles on your faces makes this whole journey well worth while.

Come on out to the Show and get a tee shirt and bumper sticker. I'd love to meet you.

Sharks In The Chesapeake: More Likely Than Thought

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 07:30 AM PDT

SOLOMONS ISLAND, Md. - Bay captain Pete Ide signals to the oncoming crab boat he'd like to parley.

It's a sunny day on the Chesapeake Bay and boaters of all sorts are out conducting their business. Ide had been steering his charter boat with his feet while instinctively scanning for fish and eyeing the sonar.

Aboard the crabber are three watermen who look as comfortable on the water as the crabs they haul onboard. The boat slows down along the route of their trap buoys.

Police Brutality/Excessive Force

On April 3, 2012 we were preparing to move out of our Ocean City home and went and stayed at the Alamo motel, while we were waiting for our new place to be ready. However, before we got there, I had called and asked how much it would cost to stay there from April 12th to May 3rd. Roscoe, the owner, told me $495.00, which includes all taxes as well. I paid for it over the phone and on the 12th we got there. Then on April 25th, Roscoe came to our room and knocked on the door and told us that we owed him a weeks stay starting April 26th or we have to leave. I reminded him of what he had told me on the phone and told him that it is not my fault you miss calculated weeks and that I didn't owe him for anything. He said, "you are right" then he proceeded to walk away. He returned 10 minutes later and asked my husband to go to the office with him regarding the previous conversation. He gets my husband, who is terminally ill and disabled but able to communicate just fine, to go with him. As soon as my husband walks into his office, Roscoe immediately starting yelling, screaming, and cussing at my husband and then punches him in his chest. My husband slammed his hands on his glass counter and then started yelling back at him. My husband then walked out of his office while Roscoe called the police having them show up not 5 minutes later.

A State Trooper, 4 officers from the Worcester County Sheriffs Department and a Natural Resource Police officer show up. The officers first went in and spoke with Roscoe and his office employee. Then they walk over and have my husband sit in a chair outside our room and hear our side of the story. We were told, "regardless if Roscoe miscalculated or not if he says you have to go, he can make you leave. This is a motel not a residential unit." Then my husband heard Roscoe say, "Your wife and daughter can stay, but you, meaning my husband, has to go." My husband said, "I have done nothing to you, what have I done that would make want me away from my family?" My husband then threw his hands up in the air and told officers that he is disabled and terminally ill and is too sick for this and it isn't right. I can 't take anymore then proceeded into our room. That is when the Sheriffs department officers move me out of the way, with our 3 y/o daughter on my hip and grabbed my husband, dragged him out of our room, threw him into the gravel road, one officer forced my husband face into the gravel, the other three jumped on top of him making his back and leg make a loud popping sound, then the State Trooper held down his other leg. My husband was being screamed at, pushed down on even for a couple minutes after. My husband told them repeatedly, "my knee is broke, my leg is broke, my back my back." They told him that nothing is broke and to get up or they will make him get up. He couldn't stand so they yanked him up and threw him down in the chair and proceeded to yell at him some more. Mean while all this was being done in front of my daughter, employees of the motel, and other tenants. Roscoe looked dead at my face and shrugged his shoulders with a smart grin on his face and said, "oh well, that's what he gets and I don't care."

One of the Sheriffs officers then picked my husband up off his feet, pulled him into our room and under his breathe he told my husband, "this is your fault, you remember that, it's your fault and you did this to yourself" and because of what happened my husband agreed with him afraid they would hurt him even more. My husband was never charged or arrested. An ambulance arrived on scene and took him to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Sargent McGee from Worcester's Sheriffs Department was an escort to the hospital. None of the officers took any pictures, as they are required too. Internal Affairs was called and no return effort, on their part, was made. and my husband went in on a Friday and had surgery for his broken leg and knee on Tuesday morning. Now he has a steel plate for a knee and a leg with steel rods and bolts holding it together. They are still doing tests on his back. Plus he had rocks and gravel still coming out of his head a week after he came home from the hospital where they shoved his face into the gravel road. He was in the hospital almost another week before he was brought home by ambulance. My daughter didn't sleep thru the night for over a month after this happened because she would wake up crying for her daddy. What they did needs to be told, they need to be punished, and my husband and daughter need to be compensated for their actions. It was unnecessary, uncalled for, and just plain wrong!!!! They do not deserve to wear the uniform hurting a disabled terminally ill man and scaring a 3 year old little girl. My life has become that much harder because now my husband requires more attention, more appointments and everything else. We survive on SSDI for income and don't even own a vehicle. I would like for this to become a big deal because to me it is a big deal.

Statement From Governor Martin O’Malley On PRELIMINARY JULY JOBS REPORT

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 07:13 AM PDT

ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 17, 2012) – Governor Martin O'Malley today released the following statement on the U.S. Department of Labor's release of preliminary employment data for the month of July in which Maryland's private sector created 2,400 jobs.

"Maryland's private sector businesses created 2,400 new jobs last month – leading Maryland's progress in this recovery with 96 percent of the total 22,600 jobs we've created over the past 12 months, the best July to July of private sector growth since before the Bush recession. Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revised their preliminary June jobs report upward by 2,900 jobs.

"Today, over 18,000 more Marylanders are working than compared to last July. But in this fragile jobs recovery, every job counts. As moms and dads continue to fight to put food on the table, together, we must do everything in our power to create jobs and expand opportunity for a better, stronger future. We cannot afford to go back to the job-killing policies that led our nation to record job losses and badly damaged state economies. We cannot afford to slash the safety net that so many of our most vulnerable people depend on, and we cannot afford to make deep and lasting cuts to critical job-creating initiatives as we fight to make progress in this recovery.

"Progress is a choice. Job creation is a choice. And together, Marylanders continue to make the choices to move forward—by educating, innovating and rebuilding our economy—because the most important job we create is the next one."

Congress Can't Pass A Bill? No Problem! Obama Can Just Sign An Executive Order

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 07:07 AM PDT

Our favorite Senator, Jay Rockefeller, the man who lamented the creation of the internet, is actively urging President Obama to sign an Executive Order to achieve the same results as the Cybersecurity Act that Congress failed to pass. It is beyond disgusting that a sitting Senator would encourage The President to bypass the legislative branch (of which he is a member) and evade the checks and balances that exist between the three branches of government that was such a key provision of The Constitution. The founding fathers intimately understood the dangers of a King and they wanted to make sure The President couldn't act like one. For a sitting member of Congress to encourage this is nothing short of despicable. He is an embarrassment to the institution itself.

This is just further evidence of our political decay into a nation of men, rather than a nation of laws.

From The Hill:
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) urged President Obama on Monday to issue an executive order that would establish a program in which companies operating critical infrastructure would take steps to bolster the security of their computer systems from a cyberattack.

John Brennan, the White House's chief counterterrorism adviser, said last week that the Obama administration is considering imposing cybersecurity rules via executive order after the Cybersecurity Act failed to gain enough Republican support to move forward.

Just another day in the United States of Banana Republic.

Cynicism Is Intellectual Cowardice ... A Cop-Out To Rationalize Fear And Laziness

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 06:53 AM PDT

Preface: Obviously, giving up cynicism and getting active doesn't mean adopting phony hopium. It means abandoning both fear and laziness – on the one hand – and false hope [6] on the other.
In other words, question authority and be cynical of those in power. But don't be cynical of the desirability - and necessity - of acting to challenge the destructive or criminal acts of those in power.

We have overwhelming numbers [7] (and see this). If we worked together we would win.

Why aren't we?

A large reason that we are failing is that people are copping out … by adopting a cynical attitude.

Many of us pretend that we are too smart to think anything can change. Too smart to get emotionally involved in the destruction of our prosperity or our liberties.

"Cynicism is nothing but intellectual cowardice".- Henry Rollins

"Cynicism is not realistic and tough. It's unrealistic and kind of cowardly because it means you don't have to try."- Peggy Noonan

"A cynic is a coward …. Cynicism always takes the easy way out. It is a form of laziness that provides someone with an excuse for not making any attempt to change the world …. Cynicism is a way to hide …. Cynics are afraid …. So, instead, they pass judgment on anyone who is trying to make a difference. They ridicule the efforts of individuals and organizations that are working hard under incredibly difficult circumstances …. Being cynical is often thought of as being composed and detached. It is considered to be a sign of sophistication. Cynics are mistakenly given credit for possessing a deep awareness regarding the limits of what humans can accomplish which is somehow lacking in those who spend their time in passionate efforts to change the world …. Being filled with cynicism is indeed a cowardly and sad way to go through life. "- Michael Crawley

Snow In August?

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 06:45 AM PDT

It's an August of steamy heat and rattling air conditioners, but the long-range forecasts are out: The big cities of the Northeast corridor should expect no repeat of last winter's snow drought.

Last winter, big cities like New York and Philadelphia saved a lot of money because the Northeast had a snow drought. Not so this winter.

Yes, even while air conditioners are still running, meteorologists are beginning to focus on the long-term winter weather forecast. And, it looks as if the I-95-corridor cities from Washington to Boston will need to make sure the plows are gassed up and rock salt plentiful.

"I think the East Coast is going to have some battles with some big storms," says Paul Pastelok, Accu-Weather's lead long-term forecaster in State College, Pa.

However, Mr. Pastelok predicts the battles won't start until January and then will extend into February. "November in the Northeast could be above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation, and December could be a transition month," he says. "By January and February it's going to get pretty cold."

More Americans Hunting and Fishing, Survey Shows

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 06:30 AM PDT

More Americans are hunting and fishing, reversing decades of declining numbers, according to a national outdoor recreation survey conducted every five years by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Overall hunting participation between 2006 and 2011 increased 9 percent, the survey found, while the number of anglers grew by 11 percent in that same five-year period.
The report does not explain the reasons for the increase in wildlife recreation, which it describes as an "important leisure activity" rather than an economic necessity.

'The Crazy Uncle In The White House Attic' Is One Heartbeat Away From The Presidency

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 06:15 AM PDT

Obama: Making Joe Biden Vice President was "The single best decision I have made" reported by CBS News back in 2010. At first blush, this seems like a ridiculous statement. Upon examination of Obama's subsequent record, it may be valid.

That is the same Joe Biden that Charles Krauthammer (a psychiatrist) referred to as the "crazy uncle in the attic". His recent racist comment claiming Romney and Ryan will put people 'back in chains" is the latest gaffe. The White House stands behind the comments. [Sound of crickets from the Sharpton and Jackson crowd.]

I guess Joe is good sport for the media. He gives the sound bites that break up the drudgery of the daily news flows and helps fill up the news hour. A delight for a news editor trying to fill the page, or the time slot.

But on a serious note, the "crazy uncle" is just a heart beat away from going from the attic to the Oval Office. A frightening thought. Not a casual situation. Serious as a heart attack on the White House basketball court.

The 2008 Obama said that Biden would fill in the gaps in his lack of foreign relations experience. We could feel safe." Joe will advise me," said Obama.

I don't feel safe. Is this the type of "expertise" and "savvy" the Obama administration finds indispensible? Are the string of Biden gaffes not an indication of a fogged mind?

It is becoming glaringly clear, like a fire hose in the face, that this man Joe Biden is a cardboard cutout. He is a shallow thinking career politician who speaks first and maybe, just maybe, thinks afterwards. He is the guy that gets the pie in the face, then laughs.

ACCUSATIONS AGAINST OPSEC ARE SLANDEROUS

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT

The former special operations and intelligence community members who have formed the OPSEC (Operational Security) group have become a national news story for their recently released video railing against classified leaks. Speaking out that has already found the group under assault from some in the media.
As former SEALS, Special Forces, Delta Force, and CIA officers, the men behind OPSEC collectively possess tremendous hands-on knowledge and perspective on what kind of information needs to be kept secret. Their 22-minute long video– "Dishonorable Disclosures" catalogues exactly why the recent spate of national security leaks place us all in jeopardy– and most particularly those who are on the front lines fighting for our freedoms abroad. Those behind OPSEC make a clear case that it is political motivations from the White House behind the release of highly sensitive information under the Obama administration's tenure.

Hello Clowns, its me, Mayor Jimmy, with yet another day of clowning around at taxpayers expense.

I know I said earlier this week that I would NOT go back to FEMA and ask for an extension. I know I told the City Council it was over. But I found that if I clowned around enough and put on a good show, WBOC and the Daily Times would give me the coverage I needed to make the three Council Members look bad, again.

I know we falsified federal documents. I know we perjured ourselves. But hey, we're clowns in the big circus of government.

See you at the big top.

'Atlantic' Editor: Take Down Boy Scouts Like Rabid Dog With Figurative 'Shotgun'

Posted: 17 Aug 2012 05:30 AM PDT

Only one day after what appears to be a politically-motivated shooting at the offices of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian organization in our nation's capital, any hope that the domestic terror incident or "hate crime" might scare the Left into ratcheting down their recent hateful rhetoric aimed at conservative Christians who oppose gay marriage appears to be a false hope.
The website of The Atlantic magazine today carries an article shocking in its use of incendiary and hateful rhetoric laden with violent imagery, all aimed at the Boys Scouts of America.
The article, by James Hamblin, a medical doctor and an editor for the magazine, attacks the BSA for its policy of not admitting gays as members or leaders. Hamblin also proposes that organizations like the Boy Scouts – a private organization - be forced to bend to the demands of the Left on gay rights based on a dangerous concept that could mean the end of First Amendment freedoms like the freedom of religion, speech and assembly.
